We're saddened to report the death of bass guitarist Bill Koggenhop, a longtime member of the local Detroit music community, who lost a very short but heroic battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, June 13th.

Koggenhop was a member of local reggae favorites, Immunity, as well as the jazz group Kog's Cats and the Carribean-influenced Orquesta Sensacional, among other Detroit musical units. In fact, his bio on the latter band's website described his unique talents thusly: "Bill Koggenhop is possibly the most musically diverse member in this group...You can see Bill pop up in musical theatre, rock and even an occasional country band. We believe his heart belongs in the Carribean, as he is the perennial student of Latin music, with performing experience in Johnny Rodriguez's Fiery Latin Jazz, Groupo Alegre and Atlantez.

Bill was also the husband of local music honcho Terri Koggenhop, long involved in managing local acts, as well as organizing both the Detroit International Jazz Festival and the Detroit Music Awards.

A memorial service honoring Koggenhop will be held this Saturday, June 21st, at 11 am at The Shepard of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 2905 S. Commerce Road, Walled Lake MI 48390. Lunch will follow at the church. The church is located across from Walled Lake Central High School.

Our condolences to his family and friends.

The late Mr. Koggenhop.
