The State Theatre in downtown Detroit is next door to the Fox and across from the Tigers' new home, Comerica Park. An elegantly restored Roaring '20s movie house, The State is still a decidedly more rock-and-roll venue than its more polished and glitzy neighbor. In addition, the State consistently hosts some of the bigger shows to roll into town, from David Bowie's tour in '98, the Smashing Pumpkins and Bauhaus in 1999, and equally high-powered acts in 2000.
