Next stop: Meowtown.

In addition to celebrating their one-year anniversary, Pet Valu West Bloomfield is introducing the public to their new Meowtown Lounge and Adoption Center on Saturday, March 24.

The new venture, made possible by a partnership with Pet Adoption Alternative of Warren, has been open for a few weekends, but a grand opening celebration will make things official while giving locals a chance to meet not only kitties, but adoptable dogs and bunnies too.

The party will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and several rescue groups will be on hand to make matches between pets and potential pet owners.

“This will be a great opportunity for cat lovers or potential adopters to meet our cats in a relaxing, stress-free environment, and we are looking forward to this exciting opportunity,” Pet Adoption Alternative President Michelle Tooroian says.

Patrons can pay a small donation ($5 for a half hour, $8 for an hour) to lounge around with adoptable feline friends. That cash will go toward helping homeless animals in need. A schedule of hours has not yet been solidified, according to a Pet Valu employee, but Meowtown is recruiting volunteers in hopes of expanding their hours to week day evenings.
During the grand opening party, guests will get special discounts on store merchandise as well as dog training demonstrations through K-9 Heights dog trainers. Nosh Pit food truck will also be on the scene, serving v
egan meals and treats from noon to 4 p.m.

While the lounge's main objective is to get animals adopted into fur-ever homes, it will also fill a need for those who can't keep their own four-legged friend.

“People are often not able to have a pet of their own due to their current living arrangements, and this gives them the chance to enjoy the company of cats without the long-term commitment of owning a pet,” Wendy Montes, the manager of Pet Valu, says.

Meowtown Lounge is located inside Pet Valu’s building at 33230 W. 14 Mile Rd., West Bloomfield; 248-973-8325.
