Some Vernor's Ginger Ale lovers may have noticed a change to their favorite soda bottles in the past week or so. The Detroit-born soda brand recently rolled out a collection of vintage-inspired pop bottles, and it caused quite a stir on social media.

Wtf they redesigned the Vernors bottle!

The collectible bottles hit shelves statewide as part of a short-lived regional promotion that includes five new designs featured on 20 ounce Vernor's and Diet Vernor's bottles.

“[This is a] great opportunity for us to leverage excitement and interest with consumers in the Detroit market, throughout the state of Michigan, and into the Toledo area where Vernor's has a legion of passionate followers and fans,” Chris Barnes, a media relations representative from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, tells Metro Times.

Vernor's has been a staple in Michigan since it was invented by Detroit pharmacist James Vernor in a pharmacy on Woodward Avenue (which is now a Warby Parker location where they serve Vernor's on tap). Residents generally believe the soda has magical healing properties that cure head colds and stomachaches.

“Hopefully this will be something to excite and engage our consumers,” Barnes says. “We are encouraging fans to collect all the bottles while they’re in the market.”

The collection will be available until the end of March.
