Detroit's Official Christmas Tree Arrives on Wednesday

Posted By on Mon, Nov 3, 2014 at 2:32 PM

Put away those skeletons and tombstones, quick! Halloween is over, which means one thing: It's Christmastime!

Much like stores and radio stations, there's no pause for Thanksgiving – we're going full throttle into celebrating the wonderful time of the year.

Detroit's Christmas tree will arrive this Wednesday and it'll go up in Campus Martius between noon and 12:30 p.m. It won't be lit until the Christmas Tree Lighting celebration a little closer to Thanksgiving, but it's presence sure will remind us that Santa's coming soon.

The tree is a Norway Spruce that was harvested here in Michigan. It weighs 10,000 pounds and is 60-feet tall. It's a big-un.

The Cass Tech Marching Band and the Salvation Army Band will be on hand, playing festive music to make the celebration of the arrival of another Christmas season that much more special.
