'Year of The Tiger' exhibit reflects on Detroit Tigers World Series win in 1968

OK. So, the Detroit Tigers are off to a rocky season, but let’s take it back to 1968 — “the comeback season.” The assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Vietnam War were among two pivotal events that would shape the nation the same year the Detroit Tigers won the World Series Championship. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the team’s historic win, the Detroit Historical Society's new exhibit, The Year of the Tiger: 1968, will tell the story of how a baseball victory gave Detroit something to celebrate despite the turbulent national climate.
