The Best of Detroit issue is here!

Each year, we pick a different mascot to represent our Best of Detroit issue (on newsstands now). While past years have featured characters like Satori Circus and the Nain Rouge, this year the Parade Co. — who happen to be the winners of our Best Nonprofit award — outfitted us with these amazing "big head" costumes of local celebrities.

For your viewing pleasure, here's a look at the full shoot, with the names of all of the featured characters and locations.

First up is former Tigers manager Sparky Anderson, Magnum P.I. actor Tom Selleck, former Mayor Coleman Young, Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders, and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin at American Coney Island:

Next is Sparky Anderson at Russell Street Deli:

Rocker Bob Seger at Social Club Grooming Company:

Tom Selleck at John K. King Used & Rare Books:

Aretha Franklin (and friends) at UFO Factory:

Coleman Young at Sugar House:

Barry Sanders at Fowling Warehouse:

And on the cover, Aretha Franklin at Sound Board, MotorCity Casino:

Be sure to check out our Best of Detroit issue to see all of the winners! (And thanks again to photographer Marvin Shaouni, the Parade Company for the costumes, and to models Jennifer Barylski, Patty Flack. John White, Larry Pocza, Dave Ewart, Kari Shepley, Scott Stein, Matthew Freeman for their hard work.)
