Michigan may be entering the coldest depths of winter, but that's not enough to stop the gearheads who congregate at Pasteiner's Auto Zone Hobbies every Saturday morning. For the past six years or so, this hobby store has hosted a weekly "Cars and Coffee" gathering where top brass from the Big Three are known to mingle with tattooed greasers over a mutual love of muscle cars, classic automobiles, custom hot rods, and everything in between. In the summer the event is known to draw more than 100 cars, but owner Steve Pasteiner Jr. (whose father, a former GM designer, established the shop) expects plenty of loyals to still brave the slush and salt to show up between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Aside from the cool cars and company, Pasteiner's has the biggest and best selection of automotive magazines in metro Detroit with more than 150 different titles. They also carry a large selection of books, videos, tin signs, models, and other collectibles. And obviously, with their primo real estate on Woodward Avenue, Pasteiner's is a hot spot on the Dream Cruise in the summer as well, where they host an annual cookout.
