A Thousand Clowns

Playwright Herb Gardner's A Thousand Clowns finds free-spirited writer Murray Burns raising his 12-year-old nephew in a small New York City bachelor pad. When his unorthodox parenting techniques draw the attention of two social workers, the sparks fly: Burns falls in love with one of the social workers and is forced to make some difficult decisions about his future. 4 on 4 Indoor Flag Football Tournament

To some, the opportunity to play football on the same turf the Pittsburgh Steelers just practiced on for Super Bowl XL is a big deal. But even if the location is less-than-hallowed ground to you, the fun of a 4-on-4 flag football tournament should be attractive enough. The tourney will follow a two-game round-robin format, which will be followed by a single elimination playoff (3-game guarantee). Deadline for entries is Friday, March 3. Fourth Annual Video Festival and Sound Art Installation

The 555 Gallery's Fourth Annual Video Festival and Sound Art Installation features the works of several independent musicians, videographers and animators including Justin Brewer, Yoni Goldstein, Natalie Chickee, Cooper Holoweski, Ben Hernandez, Chris Turner, Jamie Sonderman and Ed Gardiner. Purim Shpiel

The Detroit Puppet Theater's latest production, Purim Shpiel was taken from the Old Testament's Book of Esther. The story follows a poor Jewish girl who marries the rich and powerful King Ahasueros and then, with the help of her Uncle Mordecai, manages to overthrow the king's anti-Semitic Prime Minister Haman, who had planned to destroy all of the Jews. With gorgeous Persian scenery and lovely hand crafted puppets, this tale of laughter and tears is perfect for the entire family. 2 p.m. every Saturday in March at Detroit Puppet Theater, 25 E.
