Native Detroiter wins pinup competition

Here's an interesting and uplifting news item that came in today: A native Detroiter named Otaymah Bonds recently won a pinup competition in Pittsburgh.

The Pin Up Perfection Pageant may not be a venerable contest, having only been held for the last few years, but Bonds scored a first, being the first black winner of the competition. Bonds posted on her Facebook page, "Black is beautiful, and, yes, we can be pinups!" (But, hey, we've known that since the days of Lottie the Body.)

The competition, which took place three weeks ago, featured participants from across the country, and, of course, each competed in a special "retro" category. The judges panel also scored each contestant's attention to the Pin-Up genre which included 1950s retro style. The win earns Bonds a spot on the cover of an upcoming issue of Pin Up Perfection magazine.

But what really warmed our hearts was Bonds' depiction of the classic Rosie the Riveter. Tell me there isn't some hometown pride there!
