While cars were the center of attraction with the Dream Cruise further north on Woodward, on the last stretch to the south, heading toward Hart Plaza, a sort of delirious foot traffic was the center of attention. The annual Caribbean Carnival Parade shifted from its usual Jefferson route to strut with the high-drama of sky scrapers to either side of the route. Plus, the carnival, always interesting, was significantly amped up this year, seemingly with more and more dramatic floats -- which in this tradition are foot-powered and often babe-adorned.
The parade, and the annual Caribbean Festival have been folded into the larger and older (at least in Detroit) African World Festival, which continues on Hart Plaza through Sunday night.
See MT's Night and Day for more about the festival. Some parade pics are below; more are in MT's Motor City Seen Flickr pool.
