Funktelligence

It’s all about the fusion: the melding of music flavors, the blending of cultures, the meeting and assimilation of, to paraphrase A Tribe Called Quest, beats, rhymes and lives. What is it? Why, Funktelligence, the Ann Arbor-based septet that’s been causing heads to bob and asses to shake for the past two years with its groovy flexing of the fused whole of the parts: jazz, hip-hop, of course, funk, and classic jam-based late-‘60s rock ‘n’ roll riffage. The collective has concocted a heady brew underpinned by flexible funk, polished with layered grooves and fluid chops and hosted vocally by two disparate, skilled MCs with lyrics grounded in the PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) principle. Anyway you add it up, Funktelligence will find a way into your musical equation.
