Beginnings are everything. Starting the day right means stepping out to get a little light exercise. And there's no better setting for a morning stroll than Belle Isle. Soft greens cool and cleanse the eyes, and the fresh wind off the water clears the lungs of last night's debauchery. If you can get enough time, it's best shared with a few friends, maybe the perfect spot for a little acoustic guitar to set the proper tone. Whether you're probing the stony breakwaters or settling down for a short rest on freshly sawed wood, it eases the spirit, the unending cycle of wind and water, earth and grass. You'll be ready to plow through your day as ceaselessly as a freighter plows the water in the near distance.

But most importantly, looking good is half the battle. Feeling good within is made easier by looking good without. That little snap in the air, that chill coming off the river, leaves us free to choose a second skin that suits our sensibilities. As the weather cools off, we settle into our own kind of cool.

And, yeah, it's always cooler on Belle Isle.
