Event preview: Maia Asshaq and Mariam Ezzat at Jar House tonight, Feb. 11

This looks super: Maia Asshaq, the publisher and owner of Ditto Ditto, hosts Mariam Ezzat at the Jar House in Hamtramck, 13015 Klinger St., Detroit (the office/project library of Power House Productions). It's slated to run from 6 to 8 p.m.

Asshaq and Ezzat will lead a conversation about feminism in the Arab world focusing on the work and writing of Anbara Salam Khalidi, and will compare early Arab feminist actions to those of contemporary western feminist movements.

"The Detroit Bluestockings Crew, a collective created for the Cranbrook Salon exhibition, will host a series of salons within the exhibition space and in locations throughout the city of Detroit. The collective is inspired by 18th Century Blue Stocking Society in London, a group of accomplished women who rejected their exclusion from British society’s intellectual pursuits. Each member will host a salon with an invited guest speaker/performer in the museum or in Detroit that enlivens culture, conversation and the intellectual community." The event is sponsored by Cranbrook Art Museum.
