Today, title sponsors Meridian and Quicken Loans announced the festival is expanding to include two snow hills, down which attendees can rip and shred, right in the middle of Cadillac Square.
Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain, the popular northern Michigan ski resorts, will create the snow hills for the festival, according to a press release. One will be a bunny hill for less experienced sportsmen, the other will be more difficult.
Other additions include a Winter Blast Polar Plunge, during which attendees can dive into ice cold water to raise money for the Special Olympics of Michigan. The plunge will take place in a pool on the south side of Campus Martius.
As in years past, there will also be a 30-foot high slide with a 40-degree "quick drop" for tubing. A less intense 30-degree drop option will be available for the less adventurous.
There will also be an ice garden and warming stations throughout the festival.
The festival will take place from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28. Admission is $3 per person, or you can donate three canned goods/non-perishable items or a children’s book. For more info go here.
