Detroit Bikes' flagship store opens on Friday

On Friday, May 8, Detroit Bikes will open their flagship store on the ground floor of the Albert apartment building in Capitol Park. Back in January we reported that the bicycle maker would be the first retail establishment in the building and the space is finally ready to open to the public.

The store is being called Detroit Bikes 1216, a nod to its new address. According to the release, the store will not be your average bike shop, overstocked with tons of different models. Currently, Detroit Bikes sells just two bikes models, the A Type and the B Type. Owner Zak Pashak says a new model, the C Type, is in the works but won't be ready for sale until the fall.

To herald the store's opening, an event will be held on May 8 beginning at 11 a.m. Detroit Bikes' Outreach Coordinator Mike Gentile says, "There will be food trucks in Capitol Park. We'll have the doors open, the music going. We'll have food and beer in the evening."

Along with Detroit Bikes, the shop will also sell American made accessories and products by other local companies like Woodward Throwbacks and Better Life Bags.

Detroit Bikes 1216 will be located at 1216 Griswold, Detroit.
