If you look at the word, “OABI” and wonder what the fuck it means, you’re not alone. The acronym stands for “Once Around Belle Isle,” which makes a ton more sense. The stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and surfski event challenges metro Detroiters through a 7-mile natural and non-buoyed course around Belle Isle and through the international waters of the Detroit River. Maybe you don’t really feel like getting your toes wet — that’s fine. You can always just watch the racers from the shore line.
Saturday, 8/13, Event starts at 10 a.m.; 1 Riverbank Dr., Detroit; oabidetroit.com; prices to participate vary.
