It's genius really.

Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR) hopes to find fur-ever homes for some of their most lovable canines by dressing them in couture spring and summer fashions and letting them strut down a runway inside Birmingham's swanky Townsend Hotel.

The event, Canines and Couture, came together with the help of the Peppler Agency and local fashion designers and pet boutiques. Pups and their matching human counterparts will float down the catwalk donning work by hot designers and pet-friendly accessories.

“Canines and Couture, now in its fourth year, is a great event to usher in spring, see funky fashions for people, and showcase our adoptable dogs looking for a forever home,” Kristin Rinaldi, executive director for Detroit Dog Rescue said in a press release. “Although it’s been a fairly mild winter for Michigan, we are
all looking to shed our winter coats for that feeling of fun-in-the-sun. Canines and Couture is a great afternoon event where our dogs have a chance to get all dolled up, and hit the runway surrounded by the beautiful setting of the Townsend Hotel.”

The fur and fashion extravaganza will also offer patrons the chance to walk the red carpet, have their photo taken with their dog, and sip cocktails.

The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m., tickets are $60 for general admission and $70 for VIP, which includes early admission, preferential seating, and a "wag-bag" of promotional items.

You can buy tickets at detroitdogrescue.com. The Townsend Hotel is located at 100 Townsend St., Birmingham.
