A far cry from his Dumb and Dumber explosive diarrhea days, actor Jeff Daniels has landed his third Tony Award nomination.

The Tony Awards announced its list of nominations for 2019 which include Michigan's Daniels, who is a contender for best actor in a leading role for his performance as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin's Broadway adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird.

The two-time Emmy Award winner (Newsroom and Godless) and founder of the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea shares the category with Jeremy Pope, Paddy Considine, Adam Driver, and Bryan Cranston.

The 2019 iteration, which will be once again hosted by late-night TV personality James Corden, also recognized Detroit playwright, actress and MacArthur genius grant recipient Dominque Morisseau. Morisseau received a nod for her debut musical, Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations, which scored 12 nominations.

Daniels' To Kill a Mockingbird co-star and Detroiter, Celia Keenan-Bolger, also received a nod for her performance as Scout. The play snagged nine nominations in total including set design, costuming, lighting, and directing, but failed to land a spot in the best play category. As of last week, the play broke its own box office record, making it Broadway's highest grossing American play.

Daniels was first nominated for a Tony Award in 2009 for his performance in God of Carnagealongside the late James Gandolfini and received a second nod in 2016 for the drama Blackbird, which he starred opposite Michelle Williams.

CBS will broadcast the Tony Awards on June 9.
