Originally known as Detroit ShipYard, the project on Peterboro off of Cass is now called Detroit Shipping Company. We first reported
on the development - which is to include space enough for about five small restaurants, two bars, a pop-up gallery, and a communal dining area - in February.
Back then we were told that founders Jonathan Hartzell, James Therkalsen, and Timothy Tharp (of Grand Trunk Pub and Checker Bar) were expecting to close on three vacant lots that are situated across the street from The Peterboro, 8 Degrees Plato, and Iconic Tattoo within the next 60 days.
After months of delays, ED says the project has received the needed city approval from the city to move forward with construction. Vendors are already being signed building could be completed as early as December... Just in time for the droves of people who will undoubtedly fill the area to make their way to Little Caesars Arena.
Under a new name, the planned food hall constructed out of shipping containers, is expected to break ground Aug 22, Eater Detroit
