The Urban Folk Collective is a five-piece, mostly acoustic band that draws on folk music of the past and takes it to a whole new place. UFC is made up of members BLAIR, Afeni Ngozi Hill, Dale Wilson, Ken Comstock and others. Blending many different styles from folk and blues to jazz, hip-hop and funk, UFC members (individually and as a whole) have performed shows with Stevie Wonder, M. Doughty (Soul Coughing), Michael Moore, Tribe 8, Niagara, Reggie Gibson, and the late, great Jazzmaster Harold McKinney.
The band incorporates two acoustic guitars, upright bass, drums, electronic beats (turntables and samples) and exquisite vocals along with sublime poetics that touch on universal and personal themes from songs of the civil rights movement to songs of personal liberation and beyond. Jason Michael of Between The Lines writes 'If the downtown pavement could sing you a song it would sound like The Urban Folk Collective.
