About The Pop Project

The Pop Project is a Michigan-based four-piece whose myriad influences include the smart-ass pop of Steely Dan, the overblown pomp of Queen, the songcraft of Carole King and the melodic crunch of Weezer and Sloan. They’ve been called “the Motown of the future” by Detroit’s Metro Times and have shared the stage with such acts as Aloha, Wolf Eyes, Whirlwind Heat, Quasi and Dub Narcotic Sound System.

The Pop Project’s most recent release is the EP TGIF which features joyous covers of theme songs from ABC’s beloved TGIF block (e.g., Full House, Family Matters). Their forthcoming long-player Stars of Stage and Screen promises to be an extravaganza of irresistible hooks and muscular, layered production.

In addition to normal rock band activities, the four members of the Pop Project are heavily involved in running the Michigan label collective Suburban Sprawl Music. They’ve also played in a wide variety of other Michigan bands, including current indie darlings Thunderbirds Are Now!, fellow Suburban Sprawl band the Recital, Rainbow Quartz Records retro-pop group the Singles and Rip-Off Records punks the Metros.
