About Robert B. Jones

"Robert is a native Detroiter with roots in Alabama and Mississippi. His background includes over fifteen years of experience as a blues performer, historian, radio-broadcaster, and educator. He is also an ordained Baptist minister who feels that blues has a lot to offer in terms of spiritual content. Jones is an extraordinary instrumentalist, playing guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, mandolin, fiddle, quills and banjo in a variety of regional styles. In fact, he uses vintage instruments typical of early blues musicians in order to convey the tradition and feel of the music. Jones has been recognized nationally by 'Living Blues Magazine' and has twice been voted 'Detroit's Best Blues Instrumentalist' by Metro Times. Additionally, Jones is the host of an award-winning weekly radio program called 'Blues from the Lowlands,' heard on WDET-FM, Detroit. The program, in existence for over fifteen years, presents an historical and musical overview of the blues and other music related to African-American culture."
