Best-known for fronting the Detroit Energy Asylum and for her work with punk priestess Patti Smith, Carolyn Striho is one of this area's most popular live performers. She's regarded in Detroit's creative music community as a strong songwriter, singer, keyboardist and guitarist. Her compelling live shows are always memorable.
Striho skirts the line between high-energy and dreamy electro-acoustic rock, her music a vibrant and bewitching melange, bold, wild, yet hypnotic, smart and modern.
Carolyn performed at London England's Meltdown Festival in June, 2005, curated by Patti Smith, opened for Steve Earle and Patti Smith in London, and will be releasing her newest CD in early 2006.
She has performed at Detroit-area venues such as the Hard Rock Cafe, Union Street, the Town Pump, Magic Bag, Magic Stick, the Cranbrook Academy, AKA Gallery, Rivers Edge Gallery and Scarab Club, and playing at festivals such as the Festival of the Arts.
Striho is fascinating on stage and has an infectious personality. Her deeply-felt lyrics are supported by her strong music.
Her recordings and live shows regularly feature Detroit's Luis Resto (Eminem), David McMurray, Jackson Smith and Vinnie Dombrowski. Carolyn's not content to just do a scripted or regular, mechanical "show"; she expresses herself in spontaneous performance -and with her catchy, rhythmic songwriting, Carolyn blends controversy, melody and attitude. Her music fuses pop, rock, jazz, classical, folk, punk and even cabaret with humor and intimate confession/poetry for a whirlwind of adventure.
