Vinnie Dombrowski, Jimmy Paluzzi and Robby Graham of Crud have joined together with Sir Tim DuValier of Chisel Brothers to harness a different kind of energy in Orbitsuns, which has more of a country-western, rockabilly kick. The group travels through all the torrid emotions that go so well with a shot of whiskey and the soft, echoed twang of a guitar — cheating, lying and being left alone in the morning light. They also pay tribute with a few classic Elvis and Johnny Cash covers in live sets.

The band’s only a departure from Crud in sonic theory, really. There’s still the same attention-grabbing stage presence and listen-damnit volume. Only they’re wearing “cowboy” shirts as opposed to black bikinis and thigh-high pleather boots (which is probably a good thing).

“I had enough songs written to either do a record or a set. I thought it would be great to get a band together to play them,” says Dombrowski, the main songwriter for the group. And for the past year and a half, that’s exactly what the Orbitsuns have done, picking up fans show by show, the old-fashioned way.

Orbitsuns perform with the Troubadours, Brian Oblivion and the Volcanos on Thursday, March 8 at Lili’s 21, 2930 Jacob, Hamtramck. Call 313-875-6555.
