Tucked in the streets of Mexicantown, next door to Xochimilco's, across from El Zocalo, is Xochi's Gift Shop. This little store has been there for the past 30 years, selling a little Mexican flavor to local residents and to those who travel to the shop for special knickknacks they can't find anywhere else.
For example, you've probably often wondered where you can get those ceramic chili peppers that so often hang in Mexican restaurants. The answer? Xochi's. Oh, and they have strands of garlic, too. Katrina dolls and sugar skulls are also a big part of the stock here — they even have a Christmas tree that's solely adorned with Day of the Dead paraphernalia. They also carry cowboy boots, hats, leather satchels, and clothing. On a back wall hangs a menagerie of crosses, a style to fit every personality.
Sparkly sequin Virgins de Guadalupe and some Frida Kahlo imagery can be found in the back room, along with donkey-shaped planters, more sugar skulls, and other forms of artwork. Near the register are baskets upon baskets of small wonders that will delight children — maracas, bracelets, wooden snakes, stones, rings, and more. In the front window are Mexican-themed Christmas ornaments (some from Bronner's), including tacos, sombreros, more Virgins de Guadalupe, and chili peppers.
