Hours of preparation and cooking by night, delivering by day, and classes at Wayne State University in between — that’s what 21-year-old Dwayne Daniels is about when it comes to keeping his life, schooling, and independent catering and delivery company afloat. Daniels, a WSU senior, says the business is just one of his many pursuits. He’s majoring in public relations and is looking into and doing anything concerning being a publicist, stylist, or creative director in Detroit. The cooking isn’t really his focus, though it is one of his talents, he tells us. He’s been cooking since third grade, and catering since he hit high school at Cass Tech. He once catered one of the school’s receptions, he adds, cooking and setting up for 400 hungry patrons with little to no help. And he’s willing to do anything as large. Daniels focuses on soul food and home-cooked meals, each of which he said he pays delicate attention to. It’s an art form, like many of the things he does, Daniels says.
