Side Dish: Six things you need to know about dining in metro Detroit this week 

Feast and rally — Check out some of metro Detroit's most delicious mobile eateries as several gourmet food trucks come together for a rally on July 8 to provide you with the best they have to offer at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. This is sure to be an exciting, busy event, perhaps filled with too much great food to eat in just one evening. Sample barbecue, Mexican food, and plenty of other diverse, tasty options. In addition, all attendees will also be able to enjoy free live music and entertainment. Visit on either date this summer and give both your ears and your taste buds something to love. The Food Truck Rally will happen between 5 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 on 316 E. 11 Mile Rd. in Royal Oak; 248-246-3276. Admission is free.

Pierogi party — The American Polish Festival & Craft Show will celebrate an important part of Detroit history and culture in Sterling Heights. Enjoy and dance to polka music, get a drink at the Polish Pub, or taste great food at the Kielbasa Café. If you're especially hungry, take part in the fourth annual "Srodek's Pierogi Eating Challenge." (Last year's record was 67 in 10 minutes. Good luck.) The festival runs from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12 at the American Polish Century Club, 33204 Maple Lane, Sterling Heights. Admission is $2.

Sneak peeks on tap —Try sneak peeks of five different new brews from Fermenta, the collective of Michigan women in the craft brewing industry, at a beer dinner on Wednesday, July 15 at the Rochester Tap Room. The night will include a welcome beer, plus a four-course beer dinner, with the brews on tap being offered ahead of their showcase at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Fest. The Rochester Tap Room is located at 6870 N. Rochester Rd., Rochester. Seating is a 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 7 p.m. Cost is $45 per person, with $5 going toward the Fermenta scholarship fund. I Heard It Through the Tomato Vine — Enjoy two Detroit favorites at once when Buddy's Pizza introduces the Motown Museum pizza to its menu. The item features pepperoni, bacon, and Buddy's Motor City cheese blend, and Buddy's will give $1 to the Motown Museum for each pizza sold. In addition, Buddy's will double the donation on Motown Fridays, which run from now until Aug. 28 and includes the added treat of vintage Motown music playing in the restaurant. Visit any of the 11 Buddy's Pizza locations in the Detroit area to have a slice.

Bringing it all back home — The Dinner Club pop-up returns to where they began with a pop-up dinner at the StoreFront Gallery in Ferndale on Saturday, July 11. The dinner focuses heavily on barbecue-style food, with menu items including slow-roasted smoked pork belly and mole-braised wild boar back rib. Tickets for 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. meals are available for $38 at lilacpop.wix.com/4coursesdinnerclub. There are only 22 seats available for each meal, so potential attendees are encouraged to buy tickets well in advance. The StoreFront Gallery is located at 477 W. Marshall St., Ferndale.

Go for gold — Michigan's culinary world cup team hosts a pop-up dinner at the Menagerie in Pontiac on Thursday, July 9. Chefs Matt Schellig, Jeremy Abbey, and John Piazza have crafted a menu that includes smoked Michigan trout, a summer salad, and Ravioli Ovo. Dinner starts at 6 p.m., and tickets are priced at $45 per person. The Menagerie is located at 31 N. Saginaw St., Pontiac; Call 248-648-1505 to purchase tickets.
