Jeffree Paul St. John is a very busy man. Until recently, photography has been merely a side project for this poet, spoken-word artist and musician. "I’ve been getting into self-promotion the past six months to a year," he notes. And he has a lot of promoting to do. St. John has everything from a current exhibit at the Salvador Deli in Hamtramck to an experimental-music project keeping him busy. "And I’m thinking about joining a soccer team."

This is St. John’s first entry into a photography contest; he missed last year’s deadline by only five hours. His winning photo, "The Shadows of Our Mind," was taken at Sleeping Bear Dunes using two different types of film, Kodak 100 Super Gold and Fuji Reala 400. The effect was achieved by putting the two negatives together in the darkroom.

St. John is currently employed at Frameworks, a frame shop in Plymouth, where his work can be seen in the near future.
