Ultimately, it would not be Detroit nor even Michigan but Spring Hill, Tenn., that would get the first Saturn assembly line six years later. GM now plans to phase out the brand by October. An April 17 dance-concert-poetry benefit at Bohemian National Home is to help Grimshaw with his current medical challenges. Karen Holcombe Merrill of Common Cause in Michigan says, "If you want to deal with this, you have to deal with it from the start. He was fatally shot at a club after an argument. DJ Houseshoes sums up the rapper's impact on Detroit's hip-hop community: "Proof was the embodiment of Detroit hip hop. He carried us on his shoulders for the last 15 years. ... I don't know if the hip-hop scene is really gon' recover from this one." Holton was 32.
