Mechanical Response

An original dance film created in Detroit, “mechanical response” making its national premiere at N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art. Created by Erin Wilson in collaboration with choreographer Lisa LaMarre, the work was filmed by Joshua Tyron, Seth Thompson and Raleigh Chadderdon. The 10-minute piece explores the process of removing another’s humanity as part of committing violence against them: peeling away empathic layers in order to follow through with an act of aggression, and to live with it afterward. Based on the poem “I Am The Bullet,” by Wilson, dancers personify a bullet spiraling through the chamber of a gun.
