August’s production at the PuppetART Theater is Kolobok, a Russian version of the familiar The Gingerbread Man. Our titular hero is Kolobok, a dumpling baked by an elderly couple who magically comes to life and escapes their home, only to encounter and outwit a series of hungry forest animals. Kolobok features originally scored music and is told from the perspective of two forest creatures, played by live actors. The puppetART Theater’s core is composed of artists classically trained in Russian puppeteering, and the group is known for doing extensive cultural research to add an extra level of detail to their productions — a principle since the theater was founded 16 years ago. Reservations are recommended.
