They stay up late, working through the night on a canvas or a new song, heating their studios with the heat from their bodies because DTE shut the electricity off — and heating their bodies with hard liquor on their breath like gasoline. And for one night, they present The Dope Show, artistically exploiting bad habits in a themed exhibit about "over indulgence and habitual vices." It's a show about the beautifully disastrous damage coke, caffeine, Catholicism, porn subscriptions and illegal prescriptions can do." Drink in sculpture, painting, photography and collage by Ron Zakrin, Jamie Easter, Chris Turner, Niagara and a couple dozen other local artists who look back at the past with eyes still red. DJs Mick Collins, Human Fly, Sir James Shaw and DJ Orlordy hop the stage to spin records, and filmmaker Ben Hernandez projects a montage loop of psychedelics to dilate your pupils.
