White Hatter white pale ale
New Holland | 5.5% ABV | 52 IBU
Based in Holland, Mich., New Holland Brewing Co. is a triple threat. The microbrewery crafts award-winning beers as well as makes spirits and operates a popular brewpub in downtown Holland.
The idea was born when founders Jason Spaulding and Brett Vander Kamp grew up together in Midland and attended Hope College together. As their love for homebrewing mounted, the two were drawn together. Eventually, they laid a plan to go into business together, and in 1996 they opened New Holland Brewing Co.
A decade after getting their craft-brewing business off the ground, the business partners began distilling whiskey, rum, and gin, but beer is where everything started.
Their portfolio includes Belgian tripel ales, sour ales, brown ales, IPAs, and stouts, along with their popular Dragon's Milk series. Around seven beers are available year-round from New Holland, while others, like their summer seasonal White Hatter white pale ale, can only be found a few months out of the year.
White Hatter, a Belgian-style white pale ale, begins its season at New Holland's brewpub in April, around the same time six-packs hit store shelves. The 5.5 percent ABV brew employs two row, white wheat, dark Munich, unmalted wheat, and acidulated grains along with Brewer's Gold, Crystal, Motueka, and Glacier hops to achieve its flavor.
Its softly malty, fruity flavor and delicate spicing make it a great choice for sipping during warm weather, and it pairs well with dishes like fish, grilled chicken, and cheese, all summertime favorites. There are distinct hints of orange, chamomile, coriander, and grains of paradise. Paired with its medium body, White Hatter white pale ale makes for a brew that's both filling and refreshing.
