The Detroit Historical Museum is thrilled to present a series of tours focused on the history, experiences and enduring influence of African Americans in Detroit. Jamon Jordan, founder of the Black Scroll Network, is the tour guide for this series. Detroit has played a significant role in every part of the Civil Rights Movement. From the FIRST Civil Rights Movement – the Abolitionist Movement – to the fight for voting rights, the fight against school segregation, housing discrimination and racism in employment. Detroit was also one of the most important places in the Black Power Movement.
