Local husband-and-wife artists Mitch Cope and Gina Reichert won a $30,000 grant to realize their dream of building a skate park in a string of vacant lots on the edge of a north Detroit neighborhood. Cope described the park to us last year as such: “A lot of older skaters like it because it reminds them of the old pool days back in late ’70s and ’80s, and newer skaters like it because it’s unusual.”
