Embracing beer

2014 was, in metro Detroit, the Year of Beer. If that’s a bold description, so be it, but we saw a great number of brewpubs, microbreweries, and beer halls open their doors and begin selling their wares in the last year. From Ale Mary’s in downtown Royal Oak, where you can dine on house-made sausages paired with the best draft beers and a great selection of bottles, to Atwater in the Park, where beer meets religion in an old church-turned-biergarten that delights both winter and summer guests. From dedicated brewpubs like River’s Edge brewing company in Milford to the corner bar in your neighborhood, beer is king again: local taps, craft taps — hell, let’s face it: beers that aren’t mostly rice — have begun appearing everywhere, and are embraced by even the most jaded drinker of “natty ice.” If you still haven’t tried it, we promise there’s a tap for you somewhere.
(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
