We were a little confused about Clarkston Union being the best restaurant for locavores. Certainly it has a massive local following, if we may interpret the votes as generously as possible. Housed in a former church, a beerhall-like atmosphere prevails, and the brunch is no joke. Diners can expect stuffed French toast, huevos rancheros, a chorizo burrito and an eggs Benedict some customers have declared “the best in the land.” They make their mimosas with fresh-squeezed orange juice and tweak their Bloody Marys with skewers of everything from summer sausage to pickled pearl onions. And it’s very popular. On a recent Sunday, they had a line out the door and a two-hour wait. The restaurant’s chef de cuisine, Mike Baker, says, “We see a lot of the same faces day after day, and that’s something we’re really proud of. We know a lot of our customers on a first-name basis.”
