Here's how it is - to publish an event, we need essential info i.e. date, place, phone number for readers to call and an event description. Incomplete submissions will not be printed. Those received past the deadline (2 weeks prior to publication) cannot be printed but may appear online.

Valerie Vande

Valerie Vande Panne, Editor-In-Cheif

An award-winning independent journalist and Michigan native, Valerie Vande Panne’s work has appeared in Crain’s Detroit Business, The Daily Beast, and Salon, among other publications. Previously, Vande Panne attended Harvard University and was a regular contributor to The Boston Phoenix, and a news editor of High Times magazine. She has spent years covering drug policy among other subjects, including the environment, culture, lifestyle, extreme sports, and academia.



Michael Jackman

Michael Jackman, Managing Editor

Michael Jackmanwas born in 1969 at Mount Carmel hospital in Detroit, and grew up just 100 yards from the Detroit city line on the east side of Dearborn. After briefly living in Hamtramck and Detroit in 1989-1991, he moved to New York City for 11 years. In the 1990s, he was active in the print underground, and worked as news editor for Zine World and for a time was executive director of the Underground Literary Alliance. Jackman has attended New York University, the School of Visual Arts, Northwestern University and Wayne State University, although he considers himself primarily an autodidact. He has worked as a bar back busboy, pool hall manager, office manager, foot messenger, truck driver, combustible electrician, perfume salesman, record store clerk, bouncer, bodyguard, landscaper and sandwich artist. He moved back to Detroit in 2002 and began writing for Metro Times in 2003. He has won two first place awards from the Michigan Press Association for feature writing and sports reporting. His work has appeared in Shout NY, Baltimore City Paper, Orlando Weekly, Ohio’s Athens News. Jackman has no felony convictions.



Ryan Felton

Ryan Felton, Investigative Reporter

Ryan Felton was born in 1990 and spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Livonia. In 2009, after a short stint at Eastern Michigan University, he moved to Detroit where he has remained ever since. After graduating from Wayne State University’s journalism program, he went on to work as a staff writer for the The Oakland Press of Pontiac, Mich. His writing and reporting have appeared in In These Times, Jalopnik, Pacific Standard Online, Reuters, The Denver Post and Crain’s Detroit Business. He drinks coffee.

 

Lee DeVito

Lee DeVito, Staff Writer

Leyland "Lee" DeVito grew up in the suburbs of Detroit where he read Metro Times religiously due to teenaged-induced boredom. After writing for The Detroiter.com and Motor City Rocks he became a contributing Arts and Culture writer for Metro Times in 2009. In addition to writing, he supplies occasional illustration work as well; a graduate of Detroit's College for Creative Studies, his artwork was featured on limited edition bottles of 1800 Tequila as part of their "Essential Artists" series. He has done album art and other design work for Michigan bands such as The Dirtbombs, Chris Bathgate, and The Von Bondies.
