Dawn of Midi at Trino's tonight

What's that noise? It's Dysnomia, an evening of sonic performance from the Dawn of Midi, playing at 9 p.m. at Trinosophes in Detroit. What does it sound like? Like some super-cool moody minimalism, a stripped down, sound that opens new possibilities to hear what's there. Sort of like a lot of the artists who play at what's become Detroit's top place to experience improvisational and experimental music.

This is going to be a cool night. Why? For starters, the show is co-presented by the University Musical Society, which means if the Ann Arbor-based group can find agreement with Detroit's scrappy stage, the music must be stellar indeed. Furthermore, the Brooklyn-based trio is actually a multinational group composed of bassist Aakaash Israni (India), pianist Amino Belyamani (Morocco), and drummer Qasim Naqvi (Pakistan). Yes, it's pricier than your usual Trino's show ($30, to be exact) but the management at Trino's stressed that this being a UMS co-production, admission is not the usual paltry sum Trino's patrons have come to expect.
