The cost of a gallon of gas in metro Detroit this week fell below $2 for the first time since March 2009. Prices have plunged so dramatically that, as the Associated Press reported, "Gas was 42% cheaper than it was one year ago, when the average price per gallon was $3.37."

But the savings motorists are experiencing won't last forever: Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, told the Detroit Free Press, "This may be getting as close to as good as it gets," but says prices will likely stay south of $3 per gallon until 2016.

With that in mind, here are the 10 cheapest places right now in metro Detroit to fill up with regular gas, according to GasBuddy — all reported over the last 24 hours at roughly $1.70 per gallon. All prices listed are for cash sales, with the exception of the ones in bold. (Currently, the Costco in Livonia lands in the top ten at $1.68 per gallon, but, considering a membership card is needed to purchase gas at any of the bulk chain's locations, we'll keep it off the list.)
