Michigan Renaissance Festival opens tomorrow!

The Michigan Renaissance Festival is slated to open tomorrow for the first weekend of the season. Set in Holly, Mich., the fest takes patrons back to the 16th century for jousting, comedy shows, games, archery, people-powered rides, drinking, shopping, and more.

The festival will open its 36th year with the Royal Pet and Ale Fest where pet-friendly events will entertain pups and pooches while their owners sample an array of ales throughout the day.

If you don't have a pet to bring, you can pick up a faithful companion while you're there. The Valley of Aberdare will play host to pet rescue groups, pet demonstrations and a slew of adoption-ready dogs. House of Hope Rescue, Last Chance Rescue, and the Pug Rescue Network will all be making matches for patrons and puppies.

Other dog-related events include State Police Dog demonstrations and the high flying pooches of Scott's Disc Dogs.

There will also be a costume contest for the best-dressed dog, who'll be awarded a pampering session.

The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. rain or shine. Adults are $44, children 5-12 are $13, and 4 and younger are free.
