Next month, Cobo Hall will be the site of the ninth annual Netroots Nation gathering, a convention featuring progressive panels, training sessions, film screenings, and keynote speakers.
Last summer, the group spoke highly of Detroit and its reason for selecting the city
: "We’ll be in the newly renovated Cobo Center, located along the waterfront in an area that’s the hub of much of the renovation taking place in the city. And there’s a lot of that happening! While the auto industry continues its resurgence, the city is in the midst of a reinvention, attracting a creative class of newcomers and engaging longtime residents in solutions for growth and recovery."
Netroots says of the convention: "Think of it as a giant family reunion for the left."
Expected speakers include Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Howard Dean and more. It'll also feature more than 80 panels and 40 training sessions, a progressive film screening series, and a bevy of other events.
Prices for the four-day event are a bit steep, but students enrolled in high school or college can attend for $95. A number of scholarships are available. For more info on the convention, you can head to their website here.
(Update! Mary Rickles from Netroots reached out to us to say a locals rate for Michiganders is being offered at $195. The link to that is here.)
