City Slang: Medusa Cyclone is back

Posted By on Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 10:50 AM

On November 19, ‘80s garage rock band Medusa Cyclone will be performing at the New Dodge in Hamtramck. Outrageous Cherry man Matt Smith will be performing with the band, and Witches man Troy Gregory will open the show. The Devine Comedians also play.

According to a statement, “Medusa Cyclone is a Detroit space-rock-avant-folk-drone collective based around the unusual guitar tunings and sonic atmospherics of Keir McDonald. After many legendary recordings and performances as keyboardist for 80's Detroit psychedelic outsiders Viv Akauldren, McDonald released several CD's and a few very hard to find and highly sought after 45's throughout the 90's. For this performance, Keir McDonald will be joined by Robert Wonnacott (RF Energy), Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry, Volebeats, THTX etc.) and Jeff Oakes (Volebeats). The last time Medusa Cyclone performed onstage was years ago, so this is a rare event!”

Sounds like a not-to-be-missed event. Gregory is developing into a classy solo artist too, so the whole show will be great. Be there.
