City Slang: Joseph Messing coming home

Posted By on Fri, Sep 23, 2011 at 2:05 PM

Royal Oak native and now Chicago resident Joseph Messing is coming back to the D to play a show at the Majestic Café on September 30 with his band the Wise Men, in support of his debut album, The Waking Visions of Joseph, which was released in July.

Amazingly, this show marks the first time that Messing will have played a show in the Detroit area, so he’ll be expecting a big turn out from old friends and family.

The band, completed by Chi-town musos Antony Ablan, Dan Huber and Ken Thompson, plus bluesy rock ’n’ roll, with a heavy dash of folk and country. They describe themselves on Facebook as such. “The Wise Men lean heavily on Joseph Messing's powerful vocals, a driving rhythm section, and the soaring guitar work of Antony Ablan. The original writing draws from the music that began in Chicago, roots blues and rock and roll, with folk and country in the mix.”

City Slang can confirm that Joseph Messing and the Wise Men are well worth looking up on Facebook. If you like what you hear, get yourself over to the Majestic.
